Code of Conduct

The Chambers Library strives to provide access to well-maintained collections, electronic information resources, and equipment. The library seeks to provide a safe and secure environment and facilities suitable for reading, studying, and other activities associated with learning and scholarly research. Library users are obliged to behave in accordance with the UCO Code of Student Conduct and the UCO Technology and Network Usage Policy.

The following behaviors are prohibited and may result in the library staff notifying campus security:

  1. Possession of alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, tobacco products, or weapons
  2. Theft of or damage to library property or the personal property of others
  3. Threats against library staff or patrons
  4. Creating unnecessary noise or other disturbances that impede reading, studying, and other scholarly endeavors    
  5. Tampering with library equipment or materials including, but not limited to, computers, books, artwork, displays, and exhibits  
  6. Viewing obscene websites
  7. Inappropriate displays of affection  
  8. Tampering with emergency mechanisms, including fire alarms, elevator alarms, and emergency exits  
  9. Using bicycles, skates, skateboards, scooters, or other recreational equipment in the building  
  10. Running or climbing in the building
  11. Solicitation or distribution of materials (event notices and other announcements may be posted on the bulletin board outside of the computer lab in the south hallway)  


In addition, the following apply to all library patrons:

  1. Personal items such as backpacks, purses, bags, and briefcases may be subject to inspection by library staff and/or campus security.
  2. Patrons are responsible for the security of their own belongings as well as any library materials checked out to them.
  3. All patrons must exit the building during emergency situations and/or fire drills.
  4. Only animals trained to assist people with disabilities are allowed in the building. 
  5. All patrons must attend to people in their care while in the library.
