Greetings Deans, Chairs, and Library Liaisons,
Welcome back to a new school year! We have lots to offer as you are getting ready for fall classes to begin. We have a new blog, several great new library databases to check out, back-to-school workshops, material ordering information, and a cool summer salad.
Chambers Chat Blog
First, I want to announce that Chambers Chat is transitioning to a blog on the library's website. I will keep emailing out the newsletter for the next couple of months, but anyone can subscribe to the blog at the link above to get notified of when new issues are released.
New Database Resources
APA Style Manual Online
The APA Style Manual now has an online version! Check out the resource and give your library liaison feedback. The publication manual as well as lessons regarding style guide content are fully available without an account. However, by creating an account, you gain access to creating highlights, notes, and bookmarks in the style manual.
APA Academic Writer
We subscribed to this resource in the spring. APA Academic Writer allows users to write a paper and store references in APA style within the program. It comes with templates for a variety of paper types, such as a reaction paper, literature review, case study, or empirical paper. Similar to the style manual online, it also has lessons, sample papers, and sample references.
Other New Databases
Check out all of our new databases on the A to Z list sidebar! To name just a few, we have the Encyclopedia of Camps and Ghettos, 1933-1945, Everday Life & Women in America, Indigenous Newspapers in North America, Policy Commons Open Collection, and Public Health & Social Care.
Staffing Change
In May, our Undergraduate Research Librarian Jean Longo retired. She handled instruction for many nursing classes and was embedded in many more classes around campus. While she cannot be added to new courses in D2L, please check your courses to ensure that she is not embedded in any courses that were carried over from last year. If you need instruction assistance or would like to embed a librarian in your course, contact Jennifer Flygare.
Other News
We're kicking off the school year with lots of workshops! Encourage your students to attend our Back to Basics (8/26 at 10am, 5pm) and How to Avoid Plagiarism (8/27 at 10am, 5pm) workshops. Don't forget to start submitting material orders to your library liaisons! The fall ordering deadline is November 3rd unless your library liaison gives you an earlier deadline.
Summer Salad
Finally, I'd like to share a recipe for a Summer Kale Salad. I made this recently for our family on a weekend to lighten up our dinner fare. It's packed with nutrients and requires no cooking, which is great on these hot days. Kale, blueberries, edamame, carrot, dried fruit and nuts are all covered with a sweet vinegreitte. I love a green salad with fruit included. It held up well for leftovers too! Bon apetit!
Thanks,
