Greetings Deans, Chairs, and Library Liaisons,

Happy September! I hope your semester is off to a great start. We've been busy in the library with new student workers, a new full-time staff member, and updates to some spaces.

Special Collections and University Archives

Special Collections & University Archives spent this past summer renovating and rearranging our Reading Room (LIB 215) and we're ready to show our students the unique collections we have to offer. Professors who would like to schedule a tour for their classes may do so by completing the Special Collections Tour Scheduling Form.

Innovation Studio Update

There's a new face in the Innovation Studio! We have welcomed Chism Young, our new full-time employee. He comes to us with an extensive teaching background and experience in public libraries, and he's very eager to learn about the technology in the Studio and supervising our student workers.

We also have our monthly Open House scheduled for Wednesday, September 17 from 5-6 pm. Stop by, see what the Studio has to offer, make a button using our button maker, and have a snack! If that time doesn't work for you, you can always schedule an Innovation Studio tour for yourself or a class.

Library AI Workshop

The Research and Learning team has been exploring AI tools that can help with the research process. This month, we will be hosting an AI for Everyone workshop. Learn how AI tools work, their limitations, and how you can supercharge your research workflow. Join us in the library classroom 226 or on Zoom, September 25th at 10am or 5pm.

Carpentries Workshops

UCO collaborates with OSU to provide Data, Software, and Library Carpentries workshops to help researchers learn the basics of tools for data analysis. Our first workshop is on Tidy Data, which lays the foundation for good spreadsheet management so that you can work with the data in R, OpenRefine, Python, or other tools. Register for the Tidy Data workshop being held on next Tuesday, September 16th 1-4pm on Zoom. Workshops are open to any students, staff, or faculty.

We are also hosting workshops on R and RStudio:

  • Tuesday, September 23 from 2:00-5:00 PM - In person in STEM 104
  • Tuesday, September 30 from 2:00-5:00 PM - In person in STEM 104
  • Tuesday, October 7 from 2:00-5:00 PM - In person in STEM 104

Spiced Up Carrots

Carrots are a favorite in our house. I recently made these Roasted Carrots with Cardamom Butter, which everyone enjoyed! I have lost the book that the recipe came from, but they're quick and easy. Mix 4 tsp butter, 2 tsp canola, 1 tsp ground cardamom, ½ tsp salt and 2lbs of carrots. Bake at 450 for 30 minutes and voila!
