  • Married Frances Tillman in 1888 in North Carolina. They had seven children.
  • Killed in an automobile accident December 6, 1939 in Weatherford, Oklahoma

During his career, McLauchlin "served as conductor or instructor in twelve different Normal Institutes held in his native state, Texas, or Oklahoma" [A History of the State of Oklahoma by Luther B. Hill, page 114]

  • 1897 Taught Latin at the University of North Carolina during the summer [Story of CSC, page 92]
  • 1897, c. - 1904 Chair of Mathematics at Austin College in Texas [Story of CSC, page 92] Prior to Austin College, he worked for Kansas public schools for four years, and for North Carolina public schools for five years [Hill, page 114]
  • 1904 - 1908, c. Superintendent of Magnum Public Schools, Magnum, Oklahoma [Story of CSC, page 92]
  • 1907 - 1908 Taught mathematics at Southwestern Normal School (Now Southwestern Oklahoma State University), Weatherford, Oklahoma [Story of CSC, page 92]
  • 1908 - 1911 Became President of then Central State Normal School in June 1908
  • Retired from Central State Normal School on April 28, 1911 as a result of a vote by the State Board of Education
