Government Information

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I locate government information?

  • Use the resources found on this guide.
  • Use the Statistics Guide to browse recommended sources.
  • Ask a staff member at the Information Desk on the first floor or use the Here to help! tab.

How do I request a document that UCO does not own?

If a document cannot be found in our collection, you or a staff member may use Interlibrary Loan to request it from another library. Ask a staff member at the Information Desk on the first floor or use the Here to help! tab for help placing your request.

How do I read a SuDoc number?

Government Information is classified using the Superintendent of Documents (SuDoc) system. Michigan State University has a SuDoc Basics guide to help you learn how to use it. Or you may ask a staff member to help you find something on the shelf. Since many documents are only a few pages, finding something on the shelf can be difficult.

May I borrow government information documents?

Most paper documents may be borrowed with a UCO ID Card. Government documents less than 15 pages, published before 1945, in poor condition or fragile, and journals do not circulate.
