Digital Accessibility

AT at UCO

Assistive technology (AT) supports tasks that would be difficult or impossible for those with disabilities if that technology was not available. Examples include screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice browsers, joystick and trackball mice, speech recognition software, and more. These technologies can also be used for digital accessibility testing.

Accessible Computer Stations

There is a desktop PC on the first floor of Chambers Library with the following assistive technology already installed:

  • NVDA - screen reader
  • JAWS - screen reader
  • MathPlayer - view and speak webpages containing math
  • Dragon - speech recognition
  • ZoomText - screen magnifier
  • WYNN - for difficulty reading and writing
  • Trackball mouse
  • Large print keyboard
  • Scanner

There is also one Mac station on the fourth floor with MacOS accessibility features enabled and a height-adjustable desk.

Screen Readers

Screen readers are used by people who are blind, have low vision, or get eye strain from using a computer screen. They can also be helpful to people whose manual dexterity makes using a computer mouse difficult and whose learning style is better suited to auditory learning.
