To find an item on the shelf, you must know its Library of Congress call number.
Call numbers are composed of:
- letters in alphabetical order
- numbers in numeric order
- further sets of letters (in alphabetical order) and numbers (in decimal order).
- Sometimes, there is a year or volume number at the end.
