The Wrenchies,

by Oklahoma native Farel Dalrymple, is unlike any graphic novel I have read before.

It is the story of Sherwood and Orson, two brothers battling demons (who look like a cross between extras from The Walking Dead, and extras from Mad Men). As Sherwood grows older, he is filled with despair as he ventures through life, eventually creating a comic called The Wrenchies. It is also the story of The Wrenchies, a rag tag gang of children who are battling Shadowsmen, a race of monsters who fill their prey with despair, all set in a post-apocalyptic wasteland (while reading a comic called The Wrenchies). It is also the story of Hollis, a young child trying to be the best version of himself, and be a superhero, like the ones he reads about in his favorite comic, The Wrenchies. When all of the narratives begin to collide, the result is an unexplainable meta-tale you won’t easily forget.
