Dear Deans, Chairs, and Faculty Library Liaisons,
Daylight Savings Time is almost upon us and Spring Break is within sight! We have several workshops coming up after Spring Break.
Carpentries Workshops
The Carpentries project provides introductory training in data and analysis skills for research. UCO collaborates with Oklahoma State University to host workshops on a variety of topics each semester by certified instructors. Several instructors and helpers for the sessions are from the library. We have two more series of trainings coming up this spring. Workshops are free and open to everyone, regardless of experience level, but do require registration.
- OpenRefine and Tidy Data
- Participants will utilize OpenRefine to import data, explore it, transform it, and export it.
- Tidy Data explores working with data within spreadsheets, including formatting, quality control, and exporting data.
- Sessions
- Thursday, March 27 from 1:00-4:00 PM (OpenRefine) - Online only
- Thursday, April 3 from 1:00-4:00 PM (Tidy Data) - Online only
- Geospatial Concepts in R
- From the Carpentries website: This workshop “focuses on working with geospatial data - managing and understanding spatial data formats, understanding coordinate reference systems, and working with raster and vector data in R for analysis and visualization.”

Take-out Fake-out Italian Dinner
I love replicating dinners that we normally eat out for! In February, my oldest son asked to go out for Italian for his birthday, and he rediscovered manicotti while we were out. We hadn’t made it at home before, so I did some searching and found this great manicotti recipe. I love this recipe because you fill the manicotti noodles while uncooked and let them cook in the sauce in the oven, so you don’t have to worry about filling floppy noodles. I increased the servings from 4 to 8 so we would have plenty of leftovers after serving 5 people. I doubt it’s quite as authentic as it could be, but it’s a very easy recipe to put together! What is your favorite take-out fake-out recipe?
Thanks,
