Paper Girls
By Brian K. Vaughan
Paper Girls is the story of four 12 year-old paper girls, Erin, MacKenzie, KJ, and Tiffany, who live in the Cleveland suburb of Stony Stream. The story begins on Halloween night, 1988, when the girls make a discovery that will change their lives forever. Brian K. Vaughn, known for his phenomenal writing in such works as Saga and Y: The Last Man, continues his brilliance in Paper Girls. Cliff Chiang’s artwork and Matt Wilson’s coloring are a perfect match for the setting of 1980’s suburbia. The one complaint I have with the book is the inclusion of hateful slurs used by many people during this time period. While it is representative of the era, it doesn’t really add to the story. That being said, I did enjoy the book otherwise.
If you are a fan of coming of age tales, Stranger Things, or 1980’s sci-fi, this is the book for you.
