Title

2046

Review

In Wong Kar Wai's loose sequel to his movie In the Mood for Love (2000), Chow, the main character, returns to the hotel room, numbered 2046, made infamous from In the Mood for Love. Now, the viewer sees a much more hardened and cold hearted man whose many liaisons with numerous women are a far cry from the previous Chow character, whose was hopelessly devoted to the married Mrs. Chan. Having lost Mrs. Chan to her husband, Chow's now new stream of women seem to echo certain characteristics of his true love, whether it be through their clothing, mannerisms, or the plain, unattainable quest until the very end, Chow does not find love, only heartache.

Visually stunning with the most beautiful of film soundtracks, the storyline zips back and forth between Chow's numerous conquests during the 1960s to 1970s in Hong Kong and Singapore and a futuristic train (also numbered 2046) that promises to take those aboard to their lost, yet wanted memories.

Wong Kar Wai's movies are often centered around love and love lost and this movie, plus his many others, are a definite must see for those hopeless romantics like myself. ~ Amanda Lemon
