Greetings!

Happy National Nachos Day! I hope everyone is having a great semester so far. Library instruction may be winding down for the semester, but librarians are still here to help students wrap up those research projects as we approach the end of the semester. This month we're highlighting our current exhibit, the new thesis submission process, ordering materials, and a celebratory nacho recipe in honor of National Nachos Day.

Library Exhibit Highlight

The library currently has an exhibit based on the John George Collection from Special Collections and University Archives. The exhibit, 'How We Got Here: Fear, Identity and The Shaping of American Extremism,' is on the first floor across from the south elevators. It was highlighted in a recent Vista article and utilizes materials from the collection to show the variety of political extremism on both ends of the spectrum. Dr. John George retired from UCO in 2000 after a career of more than 30 years here in the political science department, eventually passing away in 2008. Visit the exhibit from now until the end of the fall semester.

Graduate Student Thesis Submissions

In partnership with the Jackson College of Graduate Studies, the library has updated the thesis submission process. Beginning this semester, master’s students are no longer required to submit paper copies of their theses to meet graduation requirements.

Electronic theses will continue to be submitted through the ProQuest ETD Administrator, and personal copies may be ordered through ProQuest. The library will fund and catalog bound copies in the UCO Theses & Dissertations Collection in Special Collections & University Archives. All theses—except those under embargo—will be available in SHAREOK.

Questions may be directed to Shay Beezley, Assistant Director of Metadata & Cataloging, at sbeezley@uco.edu

Spring Instruction

It is not too early to get your classes scheduled for library instruction for the spring! Our research experts provide instruction in the library classroom, in your classroom, or virtually.

Materials Budget

While our fall ordering deadline is past, your library liaison can now take requests for spring ordering. The remaining portion of your departmental budget needs to be encumbered by March 9th.

Supreme Nachos

In celebration of National Taco Day, we'll wrap up with a tasty nacho recipe. My spouse loves to make his Supreme Nachos, and the whole family gets excited for them! They are loosely based on this recipe for beef enchilada nachos. Layer your tortilla chips in the bottom of a pan, add taco meat, pour red enchilada sauce over the base layers, and then top with your favorite cheeses and any other oven-friendly toppings you love like beans, green chiles, jalapenos, or olives. Bake in the oven for a few minutes and finish off your nachos with tomatoes, sour cream, and salsa!
