Aguirre, The Wrath of God

   Werner Herzog

Review

Aguirre, The Wrath of God is an intense journey into one man’s descent into madness and is one of the epic collaborations from director Werner Herzog and actor Klaus Kinski.  In this film, Kinski plays a Spanish conquistador leading a group down the Amazon River in search of El Dorado.  The story was filmed entirely on location, and    really captures the wild and unforgiving    Amazon jungle.

Aguirre is part of a six DVD Collection that include the films Werner Herzog made with Klaus Kinski. Kinski plays some of the most intense desperate characters on the brink of madness.  The intensity that Kinski brought to his roles was part of his personality.  Although both had careers independent of one another, together, they are one of the greatest collaborations in film history.  Herzog was the only director that ever made more than one film with the notoriously difficult Kinski.  His outburst on and off the set are the stuff of legend.

Also included in this DVD set are five other films the duo made together including  the documentary My Best Fiend (1999).  This is the   documentary Herzog made about their volatile relationship showing  Kinski’s famous outburst on the set of Fitzcarraldo while the cameras were  rolling.   Check them all out!
