Two Types of Databases

Library catalogs

organize all of the materials a library owns: books, magazines, journals, newspapers, videos, sound recordings, images, etc.

The library catalog does not include articles.

Article databases

are used to find articles on a topic.

Some databases are multidisciplinary, meaning that they cover many subjects.

Many databases specialize in a particular subject area, such as biology, education, or business.
