Use the Web to get to the Library!
The Public Web uses search engines like Google to find free websites. Some of these sites offer good information, such as most government sites (.gov), some commercial (.com) and some organizational sites (.org), but many public sites are not appropriate for scholarly research.

The Invisible Web includes resources restricted to authorized users. This is why you must login to use the library's article databases - your student fees pay for web access to the library's authoritative, scholarly sources. More

Green light Go with the Public Web for:
. pop culture, quick answers
. very current news, stock tickers, weather

. small assignments that require little research
. free government information
Red light Stop!

The more scholarly your research, the less you should rely on the free Public Web and the more you should use the library's paid resources.
